Sleeping Beauty is an auditory feast, serving an enchanting original musical. As a special bonus for blind and visually-challenged patrons, The VORTEX and VSA Arts of Texas are providing a unique theatrical opportunity. This auditory delight is enhanced by audio description, provided by a live Audio Describer through the subtle technology of an earbud.

VORTEX Repertory Company proudly presents Sleeping Beauty, a magical musical faery tale by Bonnie Cullum and Content Love Knowles. This dynamic production joins the musical theatre canon with a feminist, revisionist, re-telling of this well-beloved faery tale. This production is accessible for all ages.

With its first-ever NEA-funded production, the artists of VORTEX Repertory Company have created some of the most stunning design and spectacle in the 22-year history of this cutting-edge company. From the larger-than-life costumes for the 13 Faeries and the Royal Court to the huge revolving spiral tower and the fantastical lighting, the magic of the mythic kingdom of Avalia comes to life in song and spectacle.

Cullum and Knowles first created Sleeping Beauty in 2005, in a heart-felt version that played to packed houses, adoring fans, and young princesses. Now, they have re-worked and revised the original with some entirely new songs, revised text and music, a contemporary design, a new seating arrangement, and all-new stellar cast. Don’t miss the VORTEX performance event of the year.
