Saturday, August 4 at 9 am - Don Gardner, Certified Consulting Arborist, teaches us "Basic Tree Care for Central Texas." Trees are the most valuable plant in our landscape; it pays to know how to take care of them. There is so much misinformation out there about trees, from mulching to pruning, that it's important to get the facts. Attending Don's class, homeowners and professionals can gain specific skills in tree care, along with a greater understanding of trees in general. Don is a favorite expert with those who know him. He has been an arborist for over 30 years.
Friday, August 10 at 10 am - Rosina Newton, Horticulturist at the Natural Gardener, presents "Organic Vegetable Gardening 101." Beginning gardeners - or longtime gardeners from other regions of the country - often ask for this class. Don't miss this opportunity to learn how to create successful vegetable, herb, and flower gardens in Central Texas. Learn site selection, soil preparation and fertilization, planting methods, pest control, and more! Rosina is a 1984 graduate of Texas A&M University in Horticulture and has been assisting customers and serving as horticulturist at the Natural Gardener for over 15 years. This class may be slightly over one hour. This class will repeat on Tuesday, August 14.
Saturday, August 11 at 9 am - Jeff Ferris, Horticulturist at the Natural Gardener, ACC Instructor, and cofounder of Neighborhood Harvest Project (nhpnetwork.org), presents "Know Your Allies: Beneficial Insects." It's a war out there. Squash bugs and leaf-footed bugs and aphids...oh my! It's time to call in reinforcements to help you control the pests in the garden. Of all our problem bugs, we need to remember that less than 5% of the bugs we see are actually bad guys. Recognizing the good guys and learning how to attract them to the garden can give you the upper hand in the battle to protect that prized tomato or head of broccoli from the forces of evil! Come learn who your real friends are in the garden and landscape.
