Disability Film Festival
Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th Alamo Drafthouse Village

Information from William Greer <filmfest@PROTECTED>

We are pleased to announce the feature films of our 2016 Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival! We hope you'll join us in November to watch two fantastic documentaries:

The Rebound
Miami is a city known for its sports and diversity. For the Miami Heat Wheels, it is a city of opportunity, second chances, and a call to win - against all odds. The Rebound follows the lives of three athletes with disabilities on and off the court as they work with unwavering resolve towards athletic, educational, and career ambitions. This real account of the Heat Wheels' quest to push their way through the season--often unsure if they'll have what it takes to make it to the next step--challenges the way disability is widely perceived.

Deaf Jam

Filmmaker Judy Lieff explores the beauty and power of American Sign Language (ASL) poetry in Deaf Jam, the story of deaf teen Aneta Brodski’s bold journey into the spoken word slam scene. Utilizing high-energy music and animated graphic text, Deaf Jam illuminates ASL poetry’s extraordinary potency and power. A note about Deaf culture at Cinema Touching Disability: we acknowledge and respect that some members of the Deaf community do not necessarily consider themselves to fall under the umbrella term: Disabled. We wanted to include this film in our program because of recurring themes and challenges common to both communities - diversity, accessibility, and changing perspectives, all within the context of the arts.

In addition, Cinema Touching Disability will offer wrap-around events for both evenings, screening of finalist films from our international short film competition, Alamo Drafthouse food and drinks, and more!

Save the date November 4 & 5 at the Alamo Drafthouse Village, and keep an eye out for ticket sales later in the fall!

Opportunity to support people with disabilities in film: Cathedrals is raising money for the blind through an amazing film adaptation of Raymond Carver's short story Cathedral, starring Rick Boggs, a blind actor. DOPER THAN DOPE brings all the 90s nostalgia with a FLY GIRL dance team, resident DJ Mahealani, and a diverse ensemble of talented writer-performers (think In Living Color and House of Buggin' - our biggest influences!).

We'd like to share a direct link to some discounted tickets ($10) here:

Please feel free to share with your group (and friends and family) - we only have 2 performances this run and though we are in a bigger venue than this summer (we sold out every single show in July) we really have no idea what box office will look like this time around and want to get the word out early to EVERYONE in the community.

Let me know if you have any questions and hope to see you at a show in December!

Adrienne Dawes
