Continuing Education: 1.1 CEU
StreetLeverage has taken to the road. Held in cities across the US, StreetTour is multi-city speaker series designed to introduce sign language interpreters to contemporary ideas that encourage reflection upon their daily work and a rethink the story of the sign language interpreter. - see more: http://www.streetleverage.com/st2015/streettour-2015-ethical-decision-making-what-can-interpreters-learn-from-honey-oysters-and-wine/
This workshop will examine interpreters’ approach to ethical decision-making; participants will examine the history of our treatment of ethics and the organizational guidance given to RID members. Further, attendees will explore this topic by considering a wide range of ethical scenarios that are germane to us as interpreters and, perhaps more importantly, us as human beings. This workshop will assist sign language interpreters in thinking about those issues that RID as an organization should consider as it considers whether, and the extent to which, to revise its current code of Professional Conduct.
Dennis Cokely is a nationally certified interpreter and has been interpreting for over four decades. He also served two terms as president of RID. After teaching at Gallaudet for 15 years, he worked full-time at the company he co-founded — Sign Media, Inc. Dennis has published widely on various aspects of interpreting and has directed the IEP at Northeastern since 1996. He almost always thanks Patrick Graybill who was his first guide into the DEAF-WORLD, but there are those days.

The Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane is now showing films with open captions (OC) every Sunday. If you missed it last time, this Sunday, October 4th, we're showing THE MARTIAN in 2D with OC at 12:05pm at our Slaughter Lane location.
Get ready to be blown away by Fox's latest action-packed 3D adventure, THE MARTIAN starring Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kristen Wiig with a special screening of the upcoming film directed by Ridley Scott.
THE MARTIAN is the story of what happens during a manned mission to Mars, when Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.
Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission.
